KLINE, YORK

Word was received in Baxter from Mankato, Minn., last Thursday that James York, a former citizen of Clear Creek township, this county, cut the throats of four of his children and then committed suicide by hanging himself by a wire. The dead children are: Earl, aged 14; Nina, aged 12; Zula, aged 8; Vera aged 6. The sole survivor of the family is Ida, the eldest daughter, a young woman, who kept house for her father. Mrs. York died about a year ago and since that time he had become despondent. He was a quarry worker and a hard worker, early and late. The dead man was a brother-in-law of C. P. Kline of Baxter, having married his half-sister, Minta Kline, daughter of John Kline, a former resident of Baxter, but now of Des Moines. York was evidently insane when he committed the horrible deed. - New Era (Baxter).
