Malyn Lester Dies Of Injuries Suffered In Truck Accident
Malyn A. Lester, 30, a truck foreman for Van Dusseldorp Sand & Gravel Inc., suffered fatal injuries in an accident Thursday afternoon, Nov. 2, when the dump truck he was driving went out of control and rammed into the Skunk River bridge on highway 6 east of Colfax.
He was taken to Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton and later transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines where he died Saturday, Nov. 4, 1972.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 6, 1972, at 2 p.m. in the Christian Church at Colfax. Mr. Lester was a life-time resident of this city.
The son of Charles and Wilma Marie Thompson Lester, he was born October 24, 1936 in Colfax and was a 1955 graduate of Colfax High School.
On September 23, 1956, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Rozine Kloppenborg at Baxter. They had three children, Dennis 14, Lola 13, and Andrew 11.
Mr. Lester was very active in community affairs and his church. At the time of death, he was serving on the city council and with the Colfax volunteer fire department. He was deeply interested in the youth of the community and their problems, was a member of the Christian Church and the Jasper County Police Auxiliary. He was also active in Public Safety work and gave first aid courses. In recognition of his civic interests he was listed in a National Book of Outstanding Young Men of America in 1966.
The past six years, he worked as a truck foreman at Van Dusseldorp Sand – Gravel Inc.
Survivors are his wife, Myrtle, two sons, Dennis and Andrew; daughter, Lola; his mother, Mrs. Marie Lester of Colfax; three brothers, Francis of Des Moines; Rex of Monroe and Rhalee of Colfax; a sister, Mrs. H. A. (Judith) Thomas of Colfax; also 16 nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father.
