Vernon Kephart Services Today; Dies on Friday
Funeral services for Vernon Guy Kephart, 35, of 407 E. 10th St. N., a lifelong resident of Newton, were held this morning at the Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray W. Phillips, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, conducted services. Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Kephart’s name will be accepted. Contributions may be left at the Wallace Funeral Home.
He died Friday morning at the University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Survivors are his wife, Georgia “Kitty;” three sons, Gene David, Billy Joe and Dwight Scott; and his mother, Mrs. Forest (Susanna) Kephart of Newton.
Also surviving are two brothers, Eldon of Grinnell and Kenneth of Des Moines; and three sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Sharon) Van Sickle and Mrs. Donald (Carolyn) Wheeler, both of Newton, and Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Gragg of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his father July 15, 1978, a niece and a nephew.
Mr. Kephart was a truck driver.
The son of Forest Eldon and Susanna Arvetta Daniel Kephart, he was born Dec. 12, 1944 in Newton and attended Newton schools.
He was married to Georgia McGill Aug. 11, 2975 in Newton.
