Dr. Ella Reinertson Johnson Dies August 16th
Dr. Ella Reinertson Johnson, 81, who had practiced osteopathic medicine in the Prairie City community for more than 50 years, died Wednesday morning, August 16th at the Des Moines General Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Prairie City United Methodist Church.
The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Newton conducted the services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
Known as “Dr. Ella” to her friends and residents of the community alike, she was a 1914 graduate of Still Osteopathic College in Des Moines and came to Prairie City in 1918.
She was named “physician of the year” by the Iowa Society of the American Osteopathic Association in 1967, the same year in which a special “Dr. Ella” day was held in the Prairie City community.
Dr. Johnson, who was active until her most recent illness, was a 50 year member and life member of the American Osteopathic Association and a 50 year member of the Fairview Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at Monroe.
Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Larson and Mrs. Esther Cressey, both of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Chrystal Malone of Moberly, Mo.; and a brother, Dick Reinertson.
The daughter of Anton and Emma Severson Reinertson, she was born June 2, 1891 at Kelley and was a 1910 graduate of Slater High School.
She was married to Dr. Kress Johnson Oct. 4, 1922 at Kelley. He died July 17, 1963.
