Obituary – Mrs. John H. Jenkins
Mrs. J. H. Jenkins, who resided five miles south of Norwalk, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Hawkins, June 4, 1928 at the age of 72 years and 14 days.
Mrs. Jenkins has been in poor health for some time, having suffered a stroke of paralysis at her home on the 27th of March. She was brought to the Colfax Sanitarium where she remained for three weeks at which time she moved to the home of her daughter, where she was cared for by loving hands until the time of her passing.
This loving and faithful mother leaves to mourn her loss her husband and six children, four sons and two daughters: William Jenkins of Norwalk; Ted Jenkins of Waukee; Dan of Colfax; Mrs. Henry Hawkins of Colfax and Mrs. Francis Stanford of Des Moines. One son Wayne Jenkins was unable to attend as his whereabouts are not known. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren; one sister and two brothers of Syracuse, Ohio, who were unable to attend.
Miss Vertura McCormick, daughter of Erastus and Mary McCormick was born in Meigs county, Syracuse, Ohio on the 20th day of May 1856 and departed this life on June 4th, 1928, at the age of 72 years and 15 days. She grew to womanhood in Syracuse, Ohio and was united in marriage to John H. Jenkins on March 25th, 1876. To this union six children were born who with the father and thirteen grandchildren are left to mourn her passing. She also leaves two brothers and one sister in the state of Ohio. She came to Iowa forty years ago and has lived here ever since.
The funeral service was held in the Methodist church on last Wednesday afternoon in charge of the pastor of the church, Rev. C. H. Hiller. Interment was made in Highland Cemetery.
