Funeral Services for John H. Jenkins Mon.
Early Resident of City Died at Odd Fellows Home Friday
Funeral services for John H. Jenkins, an early resident of this city, were held Monday afternoon from the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. L. C. McDonald, officiating.
Colfax lodge I.O.O.F. No. 476, conducted ritualistic services at the Highland cemetery, where the body was laid to rest.
John H. Jenkins, son of Anthony and Mary Ann Jenkins, was born in Chester, Ohio, Meigs County, Oct. 23, 1847, and died at the Odd Fellows home near Mason City, Ia., June 8, 1934, having attained the age of 87 years, 7 months and 17 days.
On November 25, 1876, he married Vetura McCormick, who preceded him in death six years ago. To this union six children were born, Wayne, who passed away three years ago, William of Slater, Ia.; Ted of Waukee, Ia.; Dan of Newton, Ia.; Mrs. Kate Hawkins of Prairie City, Ia.; and Mrs. Nora Eckel of Spring Hill, Ia. Besides these who remain to mourn his passing away are his grandchildren and hosts of other relatives and friends.
He moved his family to Iowa fifty years ago and has been a resident of this state since then, with the exception of a short period in Minnesota. His occupation in life was mining and farming. He was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge for 66 years.
Dad, as he was familiarly known around Colfax, was a type of man who counted his friends almost by the scope of his acquaintance. He was modest, kind hearted, courteous and eager to please. His daily associates were his closest friends. He was a good man and all who knew him feel they have suffered a personal loss in his departure.
Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. Cleo Wall, Mrs. Earl Plummer, Chester Binkerd and John A. Davis.

Final Rites Held of J. H. Jenkins
Colfax, June 18 – Special to the Daily News- Funeral services for John H. Jenkins, 87, who died at the I.O.O.F. Home near Mason City Friday, June 8, were recently held from the Methodist church here with the Rev. L. C. McDonald officiating. The Colfax I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 476 conducted rituals at the gravesite in Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Chester, Ohio, October 23, 1847 and moved to Iowa fifty years ago to make his home in Colfax, where he engaged in mining and farming. He had been a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for the past 66 years.
Surviving relatives include three sons, William of Slater, Iowa, Ted of Waukee, Dan of Newton and two daughters, Mrs. Kate Hawkins of Prairie City and Mrs. Nora Eckel of Spring Hill.
