Services Today
Services for Chris Huigen, 87, will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Chris passed away April 11, 1994, of heart failure at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Chris was born June 4, 1906, in Sully, Iowa. He was the son of John and Cornelia Vander Pol Huigen. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1925, and later graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. He had taught school at Sully, Monroe, and Ft. Morgan, Colorado.
Chris was married to Hester Ellis September 10, 1938, at Ft. Morgan.
He was a member of the Ft. Morgan Elks and the Monroe Methodist Church.
He is survived by a nephew, Douglas Huigen of Spokane, Washington and sister-in-law, Miriam Huigen of Newton.
Memorials to the United Methodist Church and Monroe Library have been suggested.
