Death of Mrs. J. S. Holtz
Cordelia Jane Richmond was born in Harte County, Kentucky, March 31, 1846. With her parents she moved to Jasper County, Iowa. In 1848, where she has since lived, except a few years spent in western Iowa and Nebraska. She was married August 9, 1866, to John S. Holtz. She was converted and united with the Baptist Church in 1869 and died strong in the faith, April 24, 1902, being fifty-six years and twenty-four days old.
She was the mother of seven children, five of whom survive her and were by her side during her last hours: Albert C, William E. Elva Florence, James Brand, Lou and Beryl. The two Sarah Ellen and Effie Luvisa went before in infancy.
She leaves besides her husband and children, all of whom are members of the same church, her aged father, five brothers and six sisters most of whom were with her in the last hours.
She was a devoted wife and mother and lived an earnest Christian life. Funeral services were held at the home on Friday morning. On account of the illness of her pastor the services were in charge of Rev. J. C. Willits. The remains were taken to Baxter for interment, and services were also held there, conducted by Rev. C. W. Leizell.
