John Arthur Dykstra, age 65 of Otley, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will greet friends on Friday, June 9, 2017, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the John Dykstra Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
The son of Melvin and Ruth (Van Waardhuizen) Dykstra, John was born on November 16, 1951, in Newton. He graduated from South East Polk High School in 1970. On November 14, 1970, he was united in marriage to Barb Mundy in Ankeny. John worked and retired from Maytag. Most recently, he worked at Pella Motors.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Barb; three children, Greg (Julie) Eakins of Collins, Darrell (Amy Anderson-Peck) Dykstra of Waukee and Amanda (Matthew) Dykstra-Wessel of Knoxville, TN; nine grandchildren, Josh, Jessica, Elizabeth, Abby, Corbin, Braxton, Breanne, Jocelyn and Natalie; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Alethea; a brother, Randy (Lisa) Dykstra of Kellogg, three sisters, Nancy (Neil) Russell of Davenport, Bonnie (Bob) Losoff of Chicago and Connie Dykstra of Otley. Chris Dykstra and Ted Vander Heiden, will serve as Honorary Bearers.
