Services Held
Funeral services for Ella Mae Grove were held Wednesday, April 28, 1993, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton. The services were conducted by Rev. Les Nickell of the Chariton Bible Church. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
Ella Mae Grove, only child of Clara Stanley Scott and Earl Henry Scott, was born on a farm near Clark, South Dakota on February 25, 1918. Her mother died in the flu epidemic in 1920 before Ella was two years of age. Her grandmother Stanley took her into her home, where she lived with her father’s mother and attended school at Cambria, Iowa.
On October 21, 1933, she was united in marriage to Hiram Clinton Palmer, to this union six children were born: Louise Paasch Hull of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Charles Duane Palmer of Kendall, Wisconsin; Vickie Sue Wright of Monroe, Iowa; Linda Darlene Burton of Knoxville, Iowa; Donald Kevin Palmer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Pamela Jo McCollum of Deloit, Iowa.
On March 7, 1970, Ella was united in marriage to Robert Grove, they spent nine years of happy life together until his death in August 1979.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband Hiram, husband Bob; two sons in law, Arthur Paasch and Carl Hull; three grandsons: Terry Allen Paasch, Michael Arthur Paasch and Rickey Eugene Wright, a granddaughter Carol Joane Paasch. Also one great granddaughter Courtney Lynn Schumann. Also her mother Clara Scott in 1920, her father Earl Scott in 1950, her grandmother Dora Stanley in 1932, and her grandmother Isabelle Scott Kirby in 1945, also preceded in death by her faithful companion and pet, her dog “Corky G”.
She is survived by her six children, 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and her constant companion and fiancé La Verne Titus.
Ella worked as a telephone operator for a number of years, and had several other jobs in the Humeston area, where they lived for 23 years. They moved to a farm near Chariton, where she lived until March 1970 when she was married to Robert Grove.
She attended night school in 1967, and received her GED diploma which enabled her to attend what was then called Iowa Tech at Ottumwa, Iowa.
Ella worked with Robert as a carpenter’s helper and after his death she continued doing painting, carpenter work, and paper hanging.
