Heart Attack Fatal To Harold Gathercole
Harold Adrain Gathercole, 51, died in a sudden heart attack at his home at 6 North Elm street in this city Monday evening, January 5th about 6:45. Mr. Gathercole had been on the job at the Maytag Co. in Newton during the day and shortly after the supper hour suffered a light attack. A physician was summoned and he responded to treatment for a time before a second severe attack occurred which proved fatal.
Mr. Gathercole was the son of Robert and Emma Corum Gathercole and was born September 23, 1907 at Lucas, Iowa. The family had been residents of Colfax for the past eighteen years. Mr. Gathercole having been employed at Maytag’s in Newton. He was united in marriage to Elzada McKnight March 10, 1928 at Knoxville, Iowa. Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Emma Gathercole of Chariton, one son, Harold of Chariton, Ia., a daughter, Beverly Huffaker of Baxter, Iowa, one brother, Howard of Des Moines, and two sisters, Viola Grant of Ankeny and Iva Zimmerman of Chariton. A number of other relatives, grandchildren, and a host of friends also mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday) from the Bumgardner Funeral Home in this city, with Rev. N. G. Clayton, pastor of the Christian Church officiating.
Music will be furnished by Mrs. George Rinker, soloist with Mrs. lee Schmitt, organist.
Those in charge of flowers are Mrs. Reed Ward and Mrs. Arthur Van Elsen.
Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
