David T. Edwards Died Suddenly At Home
David T. Edwards, 57, a resident of this city the past 45 years, died suddenly at his home Friday, Mar. 21st at 5:30 a.m. following a short illness. Death was due to a heart condition.
David Thomas Edwards, son of Lewis and Harriet Davis Edwards, was born May 9, 1900 at Evans, Ia., and departed this life at his home in Colfax on March 21, 1958.
He came to this community about 45 years ago. Here he grew to manhood and made his home.
On May 9, 1930, he married Doris McCracken and to this union seven children were born.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; six children, David McCracken; Dale Thomas, Dreda Gweneth, Dewey Wesley, Docela Mary and Don Lewis. A daughter, Dawn Marlene, died in infancy. Three sisters, Mrs. Vivian Groves, of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Harry Carey (Eva) and Mrs. Lee Shelton (Harriett) both of Des Moines, a niece and several nephews, plus a host of other relatives and friends also mourn his passing.
Mr. Edwards was a faithful member of the Christian church in Colfax.
During his adult life he was employed in the coal mines and factories in this vicinity, and more recently was an employee of the Monroe Company of Colfax.
Mr. Edwards was a good man, honest, industrious and always thinking of his family and ready to sacrifice for their welfare. He was ever ready to help a friend or neighbor or assist as he might in a community undertaking. He believed in the right and was always loyal to his convictions.
An honest man, a loyal friend and neighbor, a devoted and faithful husband and father – as such he will always be remembered.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. from the Colfax Christian Church with Rev. N. G. Clayton, pastor of the church officiating.
Music was furnished by Gomer Williams, soloist with Mrs. Lee Schmitt, organist.
Bearers were Harry Carey, Lee Shelton, Paul Jones, Arthur Cooper, Richard Williams and Dewey McCracken.
Flower committee – Mrs. Richard Williams and Mrs. Howard Williams.
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
