Rites conducted for ex-resident, Fayette De Reus
Funeral services for Fayette A. De Reus, 91, of Rock Island, Ill., a former resident of Newton, were held recently at the First Baptist church in Rock Island. Burial was in the Rock Island Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Florence; a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Fred De Reus of Rock Island and William De Reus of Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Lint of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mrs. Alden (Agatha) Stanford in 1938; and a son, Joseph Edgar, in May 1980; and a sister in infancy.
Mr. De Reus had been member of the First Lutheran Church and Camp 182 of the Modern Woodmen of America while residing in Newton and was a member of the First Baptist church in Rock island.
The son of Arie A. and Clara Cushman De Reus, was born May 24, 1889 near the Fairmount community in Jasper county, and resided a number of years near Newton. He attended rural Jasper county and Newton schools.
He was married to Florence Fisher June 15, 1910. A 70th wedding anniversary observance was held June 15, 1980 in the First Baptist church in Rock Island.
