Davis Funeral Services Held
Well Known Jasper County Woman is Buried in Slagel Cemetery Yesterday
Funeral services for Mrs. Charley Davis, well known Jasper county woman, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Pleasant View church and burial was in the Slagel cemetery. Rev. Roy Howell of Killduff, had charge of the services and the funeral address was delivered by the Rev. W. J. Fowler of Knoxville. The church was filled with friends and relatives and many beautiful flower pieces covered the casket and the pulpit was banked with floral offerings.
Music was furnished by Elmer Kooistra, Harold Kooistra, Lester Kooistra, and Donnie Kooistra, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Esther Pough. The flowers were taken care of by Mrs. Warner and Mrs. Braley.
Pallbearers were John Young, Arthur Garver, Otis Braley, Sherman Woods, Wildman Woods and Ben Braley.
Alice Alta Simpson was born Dec. 3, 1883, on a farm near Kellogg and died at the Skiff Memorial hospital Thursday. She was united in marriage to Charley Davis, Oct. 31, 1906 and to this union four sons were born, Leonard E. Davis, Harold E. Davis, Frank L. Davis and Lester E. Davis.
She is survived by her husband and four sons, who live at their home on the farm, her aged mother Mrs. Martha Simpson of Newton, one sister, Mrs. Victor Reynolds of Newton and one brother, Charles A. Simpson of Kellogg, all of whom were present at the time if her death.
Her girlhood days were spent on the farm at Kellogg with her family. She attended the country schools and graduated from the Newton high school in 1902. She taught in the country schools until her marriage. She was converted and baptized in the Christian faith when a young girl. She was a member of the Pleasant View church and was an active worker in all of its departments. Alta, as she was called by her many acquaintances, was a friend to everyone she met.
