Henry Conway, well known citizen of Colfax passed away Friday, May 17th, after an illness of some length. He had many friends in this vicinity where he resided for years.
Henry Conway, son of Joseph and Sarah Conway, was born in Armitage, Staffordshire County, England, on May 15th, 1844 and passed away at Newton, Iowa on May 17th 1929 at the age of 85 years and 2 days.
He was married in England to Ann Walker and they came to America in 1881, locating first in the state of Pennsylvania and moving from there to Des Moines, Iowa in 1882; later they moved to a farm in Warren County, where they resided for several years.
Mr. and Mrs. Conway came to Colfax to live about 25 years ago, and most of the time Mr. Conway was employed in the coal mines here until advancing years and declining health caused his retirement from the active labor.
Mrs. Conway passed away at their home in Colfax on Nov. 7, 1923.
He is survived by his brother Charles Conway of Colfax and one sister living in England; also by two nephews and five nieces all living near Colfax.
For many years he was a member and regular attendant of the Colfax Methodist Episcopal Church.
He has rounded out a long life of industry and will be greatly missed by his many friends in the community and his co-workers in the mines.
The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist Church. They were conducted by Rev. C. H. Hiller, pastor of the church. Internment was made in Highland Cemetery (now called Colfax Cemetery).
