Robert E. Breckenridge Died Dec. 3rd
Funeral services for Robert E. Breckenridge, 83, of 410 W. Pleasant, Colfax, a longtime resident of Jasper County, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.
The Rev. Robert Jones, pastor of the Colfax First Christian Church conducted the services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Ida; a son, Wayne of Rapid City, S.D.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Lucien (Dorothy) Van Elsen of Colfax, Mrs. Wayne (Ann) Breckenridge of Rapid City, S.D.; and Mrs. Walter (Rosa Lee) Sutton of Des Moines; four grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Elsie, a son, Marion, a daughter, Ruth, and 12 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Breckenridge was a 50-year member of the Oak Ridge Grange and was a member of the Christian Church in Colfax.
The son of Robert and Sarah Sickles Breckenridge, he was born April 5, 1889 at Eldon.
He was married to Ida Ellsworth Nov. 29, 1961 in Marshalltown.
A former farmer, Mr. Breckenridge died Sunday evening, Dec. 3, 1972 at the Jasper County Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Breckenridge, Alan and Ruth left Saturday morning for their home at Rapid City, S.D., after being called her Monday of last week by the death of their father and grandfather, Robert E. Breckenridge. Their daughter, Connie, who attends Iowa State University, Ames, came Tuesday and attended the funeral services held Wednesday afternoon at Newton. Also their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Breckenridge and Robbie of Mineral Wells, Texas, came to attend the services. They arrived on Tuesday and left Friday. All stayed with Mrs. Robert E. Breckenridge while here.
