Mrs. William Marshall
Ruth Ann Maines was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, January 16, 1853, and died at her home in Monroe, Iowa, December 22, 1931, aged 78 years, 11 months and 66 days.
In 1869 she accompanied her parents to Iowa and located on a farm two miles south of Monroe. The remainder of her life was spent in this vicinity.
On January 21, 1873, she was united in marriage to William Marshall. To this union eight children were born, three daughters having preceded their mother in death. The surviving children are George, Jess, and Ben, two daughters, Mrs. Daisy Donnell and Mrs. Kizzy Danks; also a niece, Mrs. Earl Turner, who, from a small child, was reared in the home. All the children were present at the funeral except Jess, who is in Argentina, South America.
Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and two sisters, Mrs. Susan Jarnagin and Mrs. Maggie Waddle, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a great number of other relatives; also a wide circle of friends.
She was a loving wife, a faithful mother and her passing will leave a vacancy in the home that will never be filled.
More than 30 years ago she accepted the teachings of the Bible as set forth by Seventh Day Adventists and remained an active and faithful member until her death.
The funeral services were from the Baptist church, conducted by Elder H. A. Fish, pastor of the Marshalltown Adventist church. The interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
