Mable Swanson Stanek, 99, a 1935 graduate of Colfax High School, died Aug. 14, 2016 at a Madison, Wis., care facility. Mrs. Stanek would have been 100 years old in December.
Following graduation she taught in several county schools in central Iowa. While teaching at the Washington 2 (Highley) School west of Colfax, she was one of the last regular riders of the inter-urban rail line that ran between Colfax and Des Moines.
Her only child, Carolyn Stanek Foster, died last year.
Through prior arrangements, Mrs. Stanek’s ashes will be buried in the Colfax Cemetery next to the grave of her father Otto Swanson.
