RITES HELD FOR
GEORGE BANG

George J. Bang, 52, of Newton, owner of Bang's Apparel in Grinnell and Newton, died Friday evening at his home.

Private services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Newton, followed by burial at Newton Union Cemetery.

The son of George and Sigrid Fagstad Bang, he was born Aug. 7, 1926, at Grand Forks, N.D. He grew up in Garske, N.D., lived a short time in California, then moved to Larimore, N.D., where he was graduated from high school in 1944. From 1944 to 1946, he served with the U.S. Navy. He then attended the University of North Dakota, receiving his degree in 1950.

He was married to Marlene Thompson on July 5, 1953, in New Rockford, N.D. Mr. Bang worked in Boone from 1954 to 1960 when he moved to Newton, operating the Newton and Grinnell stores.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Newton, the Newton Country Club, the Booster Club, and the Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; two sons, Kenneth of Bozeman, Mont., and Robert at the family home; a daughter, Barbara, of Grand Forks; and his mother, Mrs. George Bang of Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his father.
