GEORGE ANDERSON

George E. Anderson, 80, of Baxter died Sunday, March 28, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jerry Ireland officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery, Baxter, with the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home of Marshalltown in charge of arrangements.

The son of George Andrew and Essie Emily Bircham Anderson, he was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Liscomb. He was raised in Liscomb and attended school there, after which he went to work for the M & St. L. Railroad.

He entered the U.S Army in 1941, serving with the Signal Corps in the European theater during World War II.

He was married to Anna Gaydos Sept. 5, 1942, in Passaic, N.J. After his discharge from the Army, he moved to the Collins area, working for Central Iowa Telephone Co. He moved to Baxter in 1967 and worked as a security guard for the Maytag Corporation, retiring in 1980.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Michael of Grinnell; two daughters, Emily Spearing of Baxter and Betty Spearing of Melbourne; one brother, Herbert of Marshalltown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ralph and Charles Anderson and Ervin Smith.
