J. J. C. Schultz, Reasnor farmer, Dies Monday
J. J. C. John Schultz, 67, prominent Jasper county farmer who lived all his life east of Reasnor, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Death was due to a malignant disease which he suffered the last six months.
Mr. Schultz was in the hospital two days prior to his death. He was born on the same farm on which he spent all of his life, located two miles east of Reasnor, on May 9, 1885, the son of Lewis F. and Christie Rohrdanz Schultz, well known pioneer farmers in the county.
On Feb. 17, 1909, Mr. Schultz married Vera Wilson at Malcom. Mrs. Schultz has done considerable writing including a travelogue, “Come Along With Me,” for the Daily News.
Mr. Schultz retired from active farming in 1946, but continued to live on the home place. After retirement, he and Mrs. Schultz did extensive travelling in the United States.
Survivors are his wife, two children, Joseph G. Schultz of Newton and Mrs. G. D. (Lana) Van Wyk of Reasnor, and five grandchildren, Joseph Carl and Ruby Jean Schultz, Melvin Van Wyk, Doris Jean Van Wyk, and Pvt. Betty Lou Van Wyk, who is in Korea. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one granddaughter. Mr. Schultz was a member of the First Congregational Church of Newton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the First Congregational church with Rev. J. Wesley Pierson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery, and Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
