Obituary for S. Fred Kane (Life Story of Fred Kane) 1968

Fred Kane passed away Friday, July 5, 1968 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 86 years, eight months and 28 days.

Fred was born October 7, 1881, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Cowman) Kane at Fairmont. He lived most of his lifetime in the Marion and Jasper Counties. He farmed most of his life in the Monroe area, the farm being in Marion county, until retiring and moving to Monroe in 1965.

In 1913 he was married to E. Maude Le Grande, who passed away in 1927. In 1934, at Des Moines, he was united in marriage to Faye McConeghey, who survives him.

Five children also survive him. They are Doyle L. Kane of Waukee, Wayne T. Kane of Ames, Mrs. Orie (Martha) Baer of Wheatridge, Colo., William Kane of Prairie City, and Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Ratcliff of Chariton. There are 14 grandchildren surviving along with one brother, Ross Kane of Monroe and one sister, Mrs. Mary Lyons of Elmore, Minn. He is also survived by several Nieces and Nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife; one son, Dean Frederick Kane, who died in 1934; two grandchildren; six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Kane were held Sunday in Monroe United Methodist Church. The Rev James V. Poulsen, minister of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Monroe Silent City Cemetery. Mrs. John Le Grande, the organist, accompanied the soloist, Mrs. William Lewis.

Pallbearers were Dale Kane, Wilbur Kane, Cecil Le Grande, Beryl Kane, Earl Le Grande and Carleton Lyons. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baarda were in charge of flowers.
