Ralph W. McAdoo, 92, of Newton died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, after a short illness. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2017, at the United Presbyterian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, February 5, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the United Presbyterian Church may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

Ralph was born in Runnells on July 24, 1924, the son of David Huber and Bertha (Freel) McAdoo and the younger brother of Sam and Lorene. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps followed by twenty years in the Navy Reserve. Ralph graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in business and spent his career in the banking industry. In 1990, Ralph retired as the President of Mid-Iowa Savings and Loan.

On August 23, 1950, Ralph was united in marriage to Valera Olivier in Hull, Iowa. They had three children, Lynn Dudgeon, Kay (Gary) Koppenhaver, and Mark (Marcia) McAdoo; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and their foreign exchange daughter, Hanne Windemuller, from Denmark.

Ralph was a long time and active member of the Newton United Presbyterian Church, serving as Treasurer and Elder. He was also the Treasurer for the Newton Rotary Club for 24 years. His love of flying led him to membership in the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was an important contributor to the Chapters restoration of the historical Smiling Thru Hanger at the Newton Airport. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 31 Jan 2017.
