The funeral of the late Daniel Deutsch was held yesterday from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Eli Swihart, with whom he has made his home several years, his wife having died eleven years ago last June. Rev. R. F. Lavender was the officiating minister and the interment was in the Newton Cemetery.
Daniel Deutsch was born in Prussia in the year 1821. When a young man he came to America, residing first in Wisconsin and Ohio and later coming to Iowa, where he has lived the past thirty-two years about six and three fourths miles northwest of this city. The immediate cause of death was the result of a fall down a stairway last Sunday evening, about nine o’clock. He lived till Monday evening at six o’clock, but during that time, if conscious, did not speak.
He is survived by four children, Mrs. Eli Swihart, Albert and Will Deutsch of near Newton and Theodore Deutsch, Nebraska and four step-children, Mrs. M. Hutter of Des Moines, Mrs. William Wolf of Franklin County, Mrs. Andrew Trusler of near this city and George D. Shockley of Humboldt, Iowa. His daughter, Mrs. Hutter, was here to attend the funeral, returning home to Des Moines yesterday. ~ The Newton Daily News, Friday, September 15, 1905, Page 1, Column 5
