Janet Elizabeth (Trusler) Matthews was born January 28, 1919 in Sherman Township, Jasper County, Iowa to William Henry Trusler and Janet Elizabeth (Leonard) Trusler. She passed away December 31, 2016. Janet graduated from Colfax High School.

She married C. Robert “Bob” Matthews on July 3, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. Two sons and two daughters were born to them: Barbara (Edwin) Krekow, Robert E. (Marilyn) Matthews, James D. (Mary) Matthews, and Mary (Roland) Issacson. They lived on their farm north of Ira until moving to Newton. In 2007, they moved to the Health Care Center in Baxter, Iowa.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents; her brother, Morris Trusler; and sister, Lela (Trusler) Clark. She leaves her four children and their spouses, twelve grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the Ira United Church in Ira. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service and at a lunch following the service. The family requests no flowers; memorials may be given to the Ira United Church.
