Mrs. H. Aillaud Dies At 78 Years
Services For Long-time Jasper County Resident To Be Held Thursday
Mrs. Henry Aillaud, 78, long-time resident of Jasper county, died Tuesday at 4 p.m. at her home, 315 South Fifth avenue, West. Her death followed a years’ illness of hardening of the arteries.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Murdoch funeral home and interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mrs. Hannah Whittaker Aillaud, daughter of Joseph and Anna Whittaker, was born in Mercer county, Pa., June 14, 1858, one of a family of seven children. All but three of the children were born in England.
When Mrs. Aillaud was eight years of age, the family came from Pennsylvania to Jasper county, Ia., and settled on a farm southwest of Newton, now known as the Gardner Dodge farm.
She was united in marriage to Henry Aillaud of Newton Feb. 10, 1884, at the Presbyterian church in Newton. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Newton for a number of years, moving to town about 30 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband eight years ago and by two sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Aillaud was a member of the Congregational church, and of Newton Chapter No. 100, O.E. S. She was also affiliated with The Newton Daily News’ Three Quarter Century club.
Surviving relatives include two brothers, Frank Whittaker of Newton and George Whittaker of Des Moines, and several nieces and nephews. ~ The Newton Daily News, July 1, 1936.
