The daughter of Leo Duane and Phyllis Kathleen (Davenport) Magg, Karen was born on July 27, 1949, in Colfax. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1967. Karen worked at the A and B Café in Colfax, where she met her future husband Steven Stoaks. They were married on March 30, 1968, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church. Karen also worked at Maytag in Newton until her health forced her to stop. Karen enjoyed a "Swinging Door" policy at her home. Usually having multiple friends or care givers there at any given time, which she adored. Her greatest joy, however, was the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her two children, Brian (Kelli) Stoaks of Clive and Brenda (TJ) Tjaden of Colfax; four grandchildren, Madison and Max Stoaks and McKinzie and McKeely Tjaden; and three sisters, Linda (Paul) Walter of Colfax, Sandra Brawner of Newton and Shirley (Dave) Engel of West Des Moines. Also surviving are five sisters-in-law, Marilee Magg of Mitchellville, Margaret Stoaks of San Francisco, California, Helen Stoaks of Santa Clara, California, Phyllis Williams of Colo, Iowa and Marge Mauer of Strasburg, Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, Larry Stoaks of Longmont, Colorado as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 2012, an infant sister, Judy; a brother, Gary Magg and brothers-in-law, Gene and Harlan Stoaks. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 25 Nov 2016.
