S. T. Sparks of near Sully died March 16th. He was about 60 years of age and was the youngest son of John R. Sparks, an early pioneer of Jasper County and who built the first gristmill in the county and was elected one of the first county officers. The immediate cause of his death was paralysis. He leaves a wife, three sons and two daughters to mourn his loss. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Friday, March 17, 1905, Page 1, Column 4
