John Rinehart died at his late residence, southeast of Monroe, on March 31, 1905. The cause of his death was heart failure. He was born near Woodbury, Richland County, Ohio, on April 13, 1837, and came to Iowa in 1855. He has lived in or near Monroe ever since. The first wife died over 30 years ago. Two children, Mell, who lives in Carroll County, and Sherman, now living southeast of Monroe, are children by that marriage.

About 20 years ago he was married to Mollie Cowman, who survives him. He served in the Civil War and was a member of Shelliday Post, G. A. R., of Monroe and was buried by his comrades.

The funeral was held at the late residence yesterday and the interment was made in Monroe Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Rinehart, Mrs. Geo. F. Rinehart, C. H. Rinehart, of Des Moines, drove over from Newton yesterday to attend the funeral. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, April 3, 1905, Page 4, Column 1
