The sunbeams fall silently upon the fields and meadows and yet their work is great. Silently the flowers bloom, yet how rich is the fragrance they emit. Silently God works and yet he ministers unto us in many ways and brings us rarest gifts of his love. So some of his earthly servants seem to have caught his spirit and they go on day after day working so quietly that they are scarcely recognized among the workers. Such a one from among us passes away from this life, leaving but a memory of her quiet work and influence.

Lottie Louise Altemeier was born February 1868, in Mariposa Township, Jasper County. When fourteen years of age she was confirmed and united with the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Horn.

Six years ago in October she was married R. P. Rasmussen and coming to Newton to make her home, she soon afterward joined the Lutheran Church of this city and was a true, faithful Christian, especially interested in the Sunday school work, where she did all that her home cares and health would permit.

Besides her husband, a mother, two sisters and four brothers she leaves two little daughters, Isabelle, aged four years and Elizabeth, two years old, who are bereft of a love, a care and a protection they sadly need.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o’clock at her late home, conducted by Rev. M. L. Tate and the interment will be in the Newton Cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, Tuesday, May 9, 1905, Page 1, Column 6
