Died – At her home in this city last Sunday evening, Sept. 30, 1889, of consumption, Mary Ann, wife of William Walker, aged 55 years and 8 months.

Mary Ann Dixon was born in Logan County, Illinois, November 23rd, 1833, and was married to William Walker, January 30th, 1853, and with him moved to Mahaska county, this State, in 1860. To them there were born nine children, five of whom survive to morn their mother’s loss, all being present with her in her last illness except one son who resides in Kansas. Three daughters, Mrs. Hayden Reynolds and Misses Ruth and Ethel Walker, reside in this city.
Mrs. Walker was converted in the winter of 1865, and united with the Baptist Church, remaining a faithful and consistent Christian until her death. In 1880, she removed with her husband to Kansas, but in 1887, they returned to Iowa and settled in Newton where she has since resided.
She was smitten with the illness that terminated her life last February, resulting from a severe cold; a month later its progress became marked, and continued until the past two months she has been confined to her bed. During these weeks of pain and suffering, her faith and confidence have been unswerving. In speaking of her approaching end, she said her trust was in her Savior and she was resigned to His will. The summons came at the close of the Holy Sabbath; as the shades of night shut out the day, her tired spirit ceased to struggle, and she rested in Jesus.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. L. Schriener at the home on Monday afternoon, after which the bereaved husband, sorrowing children and many sympathizing friends followed the remains to their final resting place in our cemetery.

Buried in the Walker family plot at Newton Union Cemetery.
