Richard “Jim” McKinney, 73, of Newton died on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service and again after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Jim, the son of Donald and Margaret (Johnson) McKinney, was born on July 12, 1943, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1961. Jim then served his country from 1961-1965 in the United States Marine Corp. After returning from the service, Jim worked for 30 years as a supervisor at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1998. Jim enjoyed racing stock cars, going to car shows, riding motorcycles, and playing tennis, softball, and racquetball.

Those left to honor Jim’s memory are his four children, Donald McKinney of Hawaii, Rochelle (Paul) Rea of Newton, Deborah Hammer of Huxley, and Jeff (Jen) McKinney of Carlsbad, California; six grandchildren, Jack, Claire, Sebastian, Shelby, Savannah, and Jonathan; his three brothers, Larry (Dixie) McKinney of Newton, Ronald (Elle) McKinney of Newton, and Clifford (Sandy) McKinney of Omaha, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.
