George McConneaughey died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Anderson, Saturday afternoon, February 4, 1905, aged 77 years, and after several weeks of suffering from a complication of diseases. Everything that loving care and medical skill could do was done to stay the relentless enemy of man but to no avail. Uncle George had come through much sorrow and illness to where he could lay down the cross willingly and take up the crown. He leaves one daughter, at whose home he died, two sons, Dr. W. D. McConneaughey of Prairie City, and Elton McConneaughey of Peona, Colorado, three granddaughters, Mrs. Frank Nelson of Runnells, Miss Maud Yoakum of Monroe and Miss Sadie Yoakum of Minnesota; four brothers in Highland County, Ohio, and two sisters in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and many warm friends to sorrow for his death. The funeral took place from the home of his daughter, Monday afternoon at one o’clock, Rev. Foutch officiating; after which the body was taken to Prairie City where it was laid to rest in Waveland Cemetery by the side of his loved wife who passed to rest in 1877. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Saturday, February 11, 1905, Page 4, Column 2 - Monroe
