Effie Hawn died after about nine months’ illness of consumption at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Hawn, Wednesday, March 16, 1905. She was born at the Hawn homestead about seven miles northeast of this city, Oct. 3, 1884.

Six years ago Effie and her brother George, who died in Boise City, Idaho, last May of consumption, had the measles and since that time had never been strong. But the first hemorrhage that Effie had was just two weeks after George’s death. Her parents, being very anxious about her condition, left Newton with their daughter October 4th last for Raton, New Mexico, where they remained until a few weeks ago, when they returned here, as it was her wish to die at home.

She was a member of the Christian Church, a beautiful sweet girl, and during all her suffering was most patient and considerate of others. Just before the end came her mother, who remained at her bedside all the time, gave way to the pain and sorrow she felt and Effie’s last words were, “Why do you feel so, mother, I am not going to leave you now, I’m not going away.”

Beside her mother and father left to mourn the loss of a dearly loved daughter, there is a brother John, and her little adopted sister, Edna, of whom Effie has had much care during the last eleven months.

The funeral will be held at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. E. F. Leake, assisted by Rev. J. W. Hackley. The interment will be at the Wittemberg Cemetery, where she will be laid by the side of her brother George. ~ The Newton Daily News, Friday, March 17, 1905, Page 1, Column 4
