A Dear Saint Called Home
A soul whose life was one of simple trust in and unfaltering obedience to her Lord, whose beauty of character was a constant sermon to those about her, was bidden to leave the scenes of earth and take her flight to the mansions in Heaven, last Thursday, December 28th, 1898; and gladly did she answer the summons, for right well did she know her Pilot, and felt assured that when going “through the valley of the shadow of death,” he would be with her. This was Charlotte, the wife of Martin Dammann, of Malaka Township. Her death was caused by the effects from a stroke of paralysis.
Mrs. Dammann was born in Germany, but for about thirty years, she and her family have lived in Jasper County, and the family have been one of the most respected and honorable among our people. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, three sons and two daughters. The children are: Frederick of Primghar, Iowa; Martin of Hubbard; Carl of State Center; Mrs. Lyons and Mrs. Earnest Toedt, both of Malaka township. Mrs. Dammann had reached the ripe age of seventy two years.
The funeral is to be held today, the first service at the home and afterwards another at the church, and the body will be buried in the cemetery near the church. All the children are at home to attend the funeral. Her earthly life is ended, but the influence of her true, sweet spirit will live on and on, as the years speed by.
