Father of Resident Died

Earl W. Swanson, 90, a resident of Newton since 1963, died Tuesday, May 26, at Careage of Newton.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 29, at Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Harry Van Patten, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials to the organization of the donor's choice will be accepted.

Survivors are two sons, Fred of Newton and Don of Colfax; two daughters, Minnie (Mrs. Robert) Etter of Newton and Marilyn (Mrs. Roy) Anderson of Grinnell; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sylvia, in 1986 and 11 brothers and sisters.

The son of William and Lizzie Soderstrom Swanson, he was born April 27, 1902, in Kelley and was educated in Kelley schools.

He was married to Sylvia Richardson Nov. 28, 1923 in Des Moines. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thur 4 June 1992.
