Bernice Vander Pol Dies Sunday; Rites Wednesday

Mrs. Wendell (Bernice I.) Vander Pol, 83, of 507 E. 25th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1947 and a longtime resident of the area southeast of Newton, died Sunday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.

Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Edwin Frohardt, retired pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery southeast of Newton.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the church or at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, Wendell of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Trout of Des Moines; and two grandchildren, Christine Trout of Covina, Calif., and Mark Trout of Berlin heights, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clarence Cook.

Mrs. Vander Pol was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist women and other women's organizations of the church.

She had been a receptionist for Dr. Lucian Stanton for a number of years and had worked at various stores in Newton.

The daughter of John and Ella Mae Dooley Cook, she was born Dec. 11, 1905 on a farm north of Reasnor and attended Jasper County rural schools.
