PELLA - Mary Hazel Amanda Miers Harvey, 82, of Pella, a former resident of the Newton area, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, at the Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Dr. Gary D. Smith will conduct services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Memorials to the First Baptist Church in Pella will be accepted.

Survivors are her children and their spouses, Marilyn and George Walker of Pella, Connie and Louise Harvey of Carrollton, Texas; Arlin and Jackie Harvey of Pella and Mary and Lawrence Estevez of Waldorf, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents, two brothers, Ancil and Clarence Miers, two sisters, Esther (Mrs. Mutt) Thompson and Velta (Mrs. Worth) Kunkle, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Harvey a member of the First Baptist Church in Pella, had worked as a ward clerk at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa until her retirement in 1971.

The daughter of Joseph and Lulu Smith Miers, she was born Oct. 11, 1909 in Knoxville, attended Knoxville schools and was graduated from Knoxville Community High School in 1927.

She was married to Marvin Merle Harvey Oct. 23, 1929 in Knoxville. Following their marriage, the couple moved to the Newton area where they lived until moving to a farm near Bussey. They moved to Oskaloosa in 1956. In 1975 the couple moved to Pella and became residents of Fairhaven East in 1983.

She later was moved to the hospital and resided in "in care" the last 15 months. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 27 Dec 1991.
