Cindy Kay Matsen (Sutton)
September 26, 1956 ~ October 5, 2016 (age 60)

Cindy K. Matsen, 60, of Newton died on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, October 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, October 9, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Cindy’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Cindy, the daughter of Theodore “Ted” and Hazel (Binegar) Sutton, was born on September 26, 1956 in Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Newton, graduating from Newton High School in the class of 1974. Cindy was united in marriage with Bruce Matsen on June 8, 1974 at the First Baptist Church in Newton. Cindy was a hard worker, many times having more than one job at a time, each of which she was dedicated to. Throughout the years Cindy was a waitress at many places in Newton and also cleaned homes and office buildings. Later she did in-home daycare for her niece, Mindi’s family before working in retail at Bass Pro Shop. In 2012, Cindy left Bass Pro Shop for her favorite “job” of all, providing care and love for her two grandsons, Scott and Reed. As the boy’s got older, Cindy began volunteering at Clay Elementary School in Altoona, before accepting a full time para-professional job for the 2015-2016 school year.

Cindy had a passion for life and tackled everything with a smile and kind word of encouragement. Her greatest love was the time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed going to garage sales, her long phone calls with Debbie, and attending her son, Nick, and grandsons, Scott and Reed’s, activities. She also liked to go to casinos and had a great time on her three trips to Vegas with Nick. Cindy was many things to many people including being a loyal daughter, protective sister, and a strong and positive inspiration to her friends and family.

Those left to honor Cindy’s memory are her husband, Bruce of Newton; son, Nick (Suzanne) Matsen of Altoona; two grandsons, Scott and Reed Matsen of Altoona; brother, Doug (Carla) Sutton of Newton; sister-in-law, Karla Sutton of Newton; brother-in-law, Steve (Connie) Matsen of Newton; sister-in-law, Peggy Braga of Newton; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charley Sutton. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 5 Oct 2016.
