Laura Mae Trafton, 93, of Newton died on Friday, September 30, 2016, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Laura, the daughter of Earl C. and Agnes S. (Kropf) Davis, was born on September 18, 1923 at her grandparent’s home in Rockwell City, Iowa. She grew up in the Rockwell and Farnhamville area, living with her grandparent’s during the week to be able to attend Rockwell City High School as her parent’s felt that the Farnhamville school was too small. After graduation she completed two years at N.W. Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota to be a lab technician.

Laura was united in marriage with Charles D. Trafton on April 6, 1946 in Princeton, Missouri. They moved to Newton in 1950. Laura worked as a lab technician for the Dr. Norris/Dr. Forsyth office in Newton. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Esther Circle, and volunteered at Skiff Medical Center. Laura enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, playing games, crossword puzzles, flower gardening, and family time. She also looked forward to her 1:00 hair appointment every Thursday.

Those left to honor Laura’s memory are her daughter, Linda (James) Roye of Searsboro; son-in-law, James F. Miller of Moravia; grandchildren, Kriston (Kevin) Jurasek of Johnston, Jamie (Jody) Miller of Zionsville, Indiana, and Shawn Miller of Peoria, Illinois; her five great-grandchildren, Konner and Katelyn Jurasek of Johnston and Isabelle, Alexandria, and Juliette Miller of Zionsville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Forrest E. and Joan Trafton of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; sister-in-law, Barbara Davis of Lohrville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; a daughter, Sherry Miller; and a brother, Earl K. Davis. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 30 Sept 2016.
