Glennavere Cross Dies Saturday; Rites at Baxter
BAXTER – Mrs. Denver (Glennavere) Cross, 79, of Baxter, a longtime resident of Jasper County died Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter.
The Rev. T. A. Thompson, minister of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be at Union Chapel Cemetery at Ira.
Mrs. Cross will lie in state at the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home at Baxter until Wednesday noon.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Louis (Velma) Klopping of Minneapolis, Minn.; four sons, Denver M. of Baxter, Dr. Kenneth R. of Iowa City; Clifford W. H. of Baxter and Richard of Baxter; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Gilman Castor of Ira and Clifford Castor of Tacoma, Wash.; and two sisters, Ivy Castor of Saratoga, Calif., and Mrs. Nellie Gebers of Saratoga, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1953; two brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Cross was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Methodist Church near Baxter and the church’s missionary society.
The daughter of Jessie Seward and Nellie Castor, she was born Feb. 21, 1886 at Ira.
She was married to Denver D. Cross Sept. 6, 1905 in Newton and after her marriage resided in Mankato, Minn., until 1910 and for several years in the State of Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. Cross returned to the farm near Ira, residing there for 30 years. They retired and moved to Baxter in 1943.
