William Hannagan Dies Today, Rites Set for Thursday
William Clarence Hannagan, 78, a life-long resident of the Newton area, died at 2:40 a.m. today at the Skiff Memorial hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Salvation Army Hall with Major Jack Cheyne, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Newton, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Union cemetery.
Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hannagan is survived by two brothers, James Hannagan of Newton and Eben Hannagan of Davenport, two sisters, Mrs. Milo Neal and Mrs. William Reynolds, both of Newton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The son of James and Percilla Hannagan, he was born July 11, 1875, near Newton and was educated in Jasper county rural schools. He farmed in Jasper county for many years until his retirement several years ago.
During the past nine years he has made his home with his nephew, Don Hannagan, of near Newton.
Mr. Hannagan was an active worker in the Salvation Army up until recent years.
