Services Held
Jean (Margaret Jean) Wilson, 70, died Saturday, April 6, 1996 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services were held Tuesday, April 9, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Monroe. Rev. Karen Merrill, pastor of the church, officiated services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Jean was born November 28, 1915, at Monroe, the daughter of Howard E. and Dena Margaret (Roberts) Roberts. A 1933 graduate of Monroe High School, Jean attended Simpson College and later graduated from Drake University. She was an elementary teacher in the Monroe School system for thirty years. On June 7, 1941, she was married to Guy (Gavin W.) Wilson at Milan, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Also preceding her were her parents.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Ann DeGrado of Newton, two sons and a daughter-in-law: Jon and Lana Wilson of Pleasant Hill and Fred Wilson of Omaha. Also surviving is a stepson, Carl Wilson and wife Judy of Monroe, ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and a sister, Janet (Mrs. Leland) Cook, of Newton.
Jean was a member of Monroe United Methodist church, Chapter BH PEO, Monroe Women’s Club and was a former member of Mother’s Club.
A memorial for the Monroe Emergency Unit or Progress Industries has been designated by the family.
