Services Held
Funeral services for Gertrude M. Wallace Wilson, 77, of Newton since 1978, were held Thursday, October 14, 1993, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.
She died Monday morning, October 11, 1993, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at Iowa City.
Survivors are three sons, Donald of Charlotte, N.C., Dale of Unionville, Va., and Doyle of Coraopolis, Pa.; a daughter, Norma (Mrs. David) Bappe of Decorah; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Robert Wallace of Knoxville and three sisters, Pauline (Mrs. Earl A.) Jones of Chandler, Ariz., Dorothy (Mrs. Leroy) Marshall of Mingo and Anna Mae (Mrs. Hollis) Morgan of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Athel E. Wilson, June 1, 1985, twins in infancy, and three brothers, Wilson, Arthur and William.
Mrs. Wilson, a homemaker, was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church.
The daughter of George and Edith Wagstaff Wallace, she was born Feb. 19, 1916 in Monroe and attended Monroe area schools.
She was married to Athel Elmer Wilson Feb. 26, 1949 in Des Moines.
Mrs. Wilson moved to Unionville, Va., from Monroe, residing there for 22 years prior to moving to Newton.
