Services Held
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 24, 1988 at the Third Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa, for John Willemsen of Pella. Rev. Dr. Delmar D. Thiesse officiated. Interment was Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
John Willemsen was born on November 13, 1893 in Dodewaard, the province of Gelderland, in the Netherlands. John came to America at the age of 16 years and resided near Otley, Iowa with his parents.
He was united in marriage with Dora Klein on January 15, 1919 at Monroe, Iowa. They moved to Sully and to this union two children were born: Marjorie Johanna and Henry Gerrit.
He passed away Wednesday, December 21, 1988 at the Pella Community Nursing Home.
Surviving are his two children and their spouses: Marjorie, Mrs. Herbert Van Wyk of Pella; Henry G. of Newton, three grandsons among them being Dwayne J. Ramer of Reasnor; four great grandsons; four great granddaughters; five step grandsons; 12 step great grandchildren, and four step great-great-grandchildren.
Of his original family, John leaves one sister, Cornelia, Mrs. Gerrit Vande Voort and two brothers; Neal and Joe Willemsen all of Pella.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents: Henry W. and Johanna Spronk Willemsen; four brothers, Jeff, Henry, Dirk and William; four sisters: Johanna, Mrs. Bert Van Zee; Henrietta, Mrs. Jake Neef; Jennie, Mrs. Chris Vander Peut; and a sister who died in infancy, and his son-in-law Wilbur Ramer.
