Services Held
Bill Wells, 70, of Prairie City, died Friday, March 28, 1997 at his home.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Prairie City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Reg Merrill, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery.
Memorials to the Prairie City United Methodist Church or Central Iowa Hospice will be accepted.
The son of Donald and Norene (Barnhouse) Wells, he was born July 12, 1926, in Centerville. He graduated from Numa High School in 1947.
He married Margaret Joan Doggett November 7, 1948, in Numa.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Tank Division under the command of Gen. George S. Patton.
Mr. Wells was employed as a truck driver by Rock Island Motor Transit, retiring in 1981. He was also employed as a custodian for seven years by the Prairie City School District, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, the Teamsters, and the Retired Teamsters.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, a daughter-in-law, and a future daughter-in-law, Bill Lee and his fiancée Sandy Fraker of Newton, and Ross and Pam Wells of Monroe; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Ken Birkenholtz of Indianola, and Ronda and Jim House of Rhodes; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Beverly of Centerville, and Bernard and Betty of Menlo; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Grundy of Numa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
