Walker, Wanda Waddle – 1919-2008

Wanda Walker, age 88 of Monroe, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Nelson Manor of Newton. Funeral services for Mrs. Walker will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Monroe United Methodist Church with burial following at Silent City Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Walker will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Coburn Funeral Home of Monroe from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Monroe United Methodist Church and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of George Robert and Merle Givena (Clevenger) Waddle, Wanda was born March 25, 1919, near Monroe, Iowa. Wanda graduated from Monroe High School, Class of 1936. Prior to marriage she taught at Union School in Jasper County. She was united in marriage to Forrest Doyle Walker in St. Joseph, Missouri, on May 25, 1939. Wanda was a homemaker and a secretary who had been a long-time employee of the State of Iowa in the Health Department before retiring in 1985. A life long resident of the Monroe area, she was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her four children: Janice Cook of Monroe, James Walker and his wife Jean of Prairie City, Larry Walker and his wife Janet of Center City, MN, and Roger Walker and his wife Roberta of Ellendale, MN, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Dean Waddle of Kellogg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2002; a brother, Dwight Floyd in 1938; a brother, Doyle Cecil in 1998; a sister, Zella Mae in 2000; a sister, Velda Irene in 2008; a son-in-law, William Dean Cook in 1974; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Reese Walker in 1996; and a grandson, Robert G. Pfander in 1007.
