Mrs. John Walker, Lifelong Monroe Resident, Dies
Monroe – Mrs. John (Mary Ellen) Walker, 73, a lifelong resident of the Monroe community, died Sunday morning at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Monroe Methodist church.
The Rev. Orin Young, minister of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery.
Crumpacker funeral home at Monroe is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Walker is survived by three sons, Mark and Forrest of Monroe and Norman of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Vetta) Cathey of Newton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Gradus (Nettie) Vriezelaar of near Monroe, Hannah Herwehe of Des Moines, Mrs. Viola Braniff of Phoenix, Ariz., and Pearl Richmond of Three Lakes, Wis.; and two brothers, Merle and Grover Herwehe of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son and daughter.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the Monroe Methodist church and the Martha and Mary Sunday school class.
She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge, the Pythian Sisters, Woman’s Relief Corps and the Amvets auxiliary.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Herwehe, she was born in Monroe February 19, 1888.
She was married to John Walker July 18, 1909.
