Barbara Reese Walker, 52, of Prairie City died Friday of a heart ailment at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Prairie City United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
Mrs. Walker was born in Oskaloosa and lived in Monroe before moving to Prairie City 25 years ago. She taught first grade at Monroe Elementary School. She was a member of TTT and Alpha Omega sorority.
Survivors include her husband, James; a son, John Walker of Des Moines; two daughters, Mary Ellen Draeger of Webster City and Beth Kristine Walker of Prairie City; her mother, Marzette Reese of Otley; and two sisters, June Hjortshoj and Peggy Terpstra, both of Monroe.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Abused Children’s Fund, her church, the PCM Foundation, or Children and Families of Iowa.

Barbara Reese Walker, age 52, died Friday, March 22, 1996, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Services for Barbara Reese Walker were held Monday, March 25, 1996, at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. Rev. Reg Merrill, pastor, officiated the services. Interment was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
She was born June 2, 1943, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Henderson and Marzette LeGrand Reese. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1961 and attended Simpson College, graduating in 1965 with a degree in elementary education. On June 12, 1965, she was married to James W. Walker at the Knoxville United Methodist Church. A first grade teacher in the Monroe Elementary School, she has also taught at Ames and Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Surviving is her husband, James, of Prairie City; three children and a son-in-law, Mary Ellen Draeger and husband Troy of Webster City, John Walker of Des Moines, and Beth Kristine Walker at home; her mother, Marzette Reese, of Otley; and two sisters, June (Mrs. Paul) Hjortshoj and Peggy (Mrs. Alan) Terpstra, both of Monroe, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Barbara was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist church, TTT, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, and the Iowa State Education Association.
