Life Story of Mrs. G. Vriezelaar
Mrs. Gradus (Nettie) Vriezelaar, daughter of Henry and Anna (Wittmer) Herwehe, was born February 23, 1891, at Monroe. She passed away at the Pella Community Nursing Home Monday, October 18, 1965, at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 25 days. Mrs. Vriezelaar spent her entire life in the Monroe community.
She received her education in the Bellevue rural school and was a member of the Bellevue Methodist Church, serving as organist for several years.
On December 30, 1913, she was united in marriage to Gradus Vriezelaar and to this union five children were born.
Mr. and Mrs. Vriezelaar celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary December 30, 1963.
She leaves to mourn her departure from this life, her husband; and five children: Kathryn Vriezelaar of Otley, James Vriezelaar of Waverly, Mrs. Max (Jean) Tool of Monroe, Mrs. Cullen A. (Korinne) Brannon, Jr. of Portland, Oregon, and Blaine Vriezelaar of Monroe. Also surviving are five brothers and sisters: Hannah Herwehe of Des Moines, Grover Herwehe of Springfield, Ill., Merle Herwehe of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. O. P. (Pearl) Richmond of Three Lakes, Wisc., Mrs. Clarence (Viola) Braniff of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.
Mrs. Vriezelaar was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George Herwehe, and two sisters: Mrs. John (Ella) Walker, Mrs. Lee (Anna Mae) Marshall; and a brother and sister who died in infancy.
Services were held in the Monroe Baptist Church Wednesday, October 20, at 2 p.m. with Family Prayer Services at Monroe Garden Chapel prior to church services. The Rev. Wayne K. Anderson and Rev. James V. Poulsen officiated at the services.
Mrs. J. M. Dockum sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In The Garden,” accompanied by Mrs. Devayne Honnold.
Casket bearers were Mark Walker, Forrest Walker, Norman Walker, Arthur Vander Ploeg, John Breed and Lee Vriezelaar. Ushers were Bruce Walker and Arthur Vriezelaar. Mrs. Roy Van Essen and Mrs. Joe Clark were flower attendants.
Interment was in the Silent City Cemetery at Monroe.
